L. Dewey  Phelps, Jr.
Leonard Dewey Phelps, Jr., 84 went home to be with his Lord November 13, 2016 with his family by his side. Dewey was born in Pamlico County, NC to the late Leonard and Nannie D. Phelps. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister and brother. He served his country in the United States Coast Guard and was a veteran of the Korean War; he was a 25 plus year member of Appalachian Trail Club; a member of the Boy Scouts of America where he earned his Eagle Scout Award; Dewey also was a member of Colonial Baptist Church, Virginia Beach where he served as an usher; and retired as a commercial printer from Norfolk Printing Company.

Dewey is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carol R. Phelps; daughters, Belinda D. Phelps and Dara R. Phelps; son, Leonard D. Phelps, III; 5 grandchildren, Denise Leerkes (Thomas), Jennifer Beichner (Andy), Stephanie Locklear (Jonathan), Victor and Glory Phelps; 2 great-grandchildren; nieces, Elaine, Loraine, Carol Ann and Patty; and nephews, Mike Phelps whom he also worked with at Norfolk Printing Company, Leslie Phelps, Jr. and Howard Harmon.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 18, 2016 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Colonial Baptist Church, 2221 Centerville Turnpike, Virginia Beach, VA 23464 with Pastor Keith H. Davey officiating followed by military honors. His final resting place will be Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
