Obituary for Michael Lowe Hodges

Michael Lowe  Hodges
CHESAPEAKE—Michael Lowe Hodges, 65, went to be with the Lord on September 17, 2011. A native of Martinsville, VA, he was the son of the late Columbus Jack and Geneva Lowe Hodges. A graduate of Norview High School, he served his apprenticeship at Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth and 12 years later was promoted to head of the Plant Services division at NARF, NAS, Norfolk. He worked as a sheet metal mechanic, sheet metal foreman, general foreman, Maintenance Superintendent of the mechanical branch, and Division Director. While superintendent, he became the youngest Vice President to serve in the National Association of Superintendents. He retired from NAS Oceana after 42 years of civil service employment as a Deputy Public Works Officer.
A past elder of Third Presbyterian Church in Norfolk and of Great Bridge Presbyterian church in Chesapeake, he was a former member of the Chesapeake West Gideon Camp.
Surviving are his loving daughters, Elizabeth Hodges Clarke and her husband, Burleigh “Jeb” of Norfolk, VA and Kimberly Jean Hodges of China Grove, NC and their mother, Evelyn Elwood Hodges of Chesapeake, VA; a brother, Jackie Hodges and his wife, Bonnie of Salisbury, NC; and many extended family members.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Great Bridge Presbyterian Church with Dr. Ralph Herbert and Rev. Jack Howell officiating. Burial will be private in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Graham Funeral Home, Chesapeake on Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Chesapeake West Camp of Gideons International, P. O.
