DICK PRITCHARD,

“THE GAS MAN”

VIRGINA BEACH – Richard “Dick” Pritchard, 70, of the 600 block of Basilica Court, passed away peacefully April 1, 2005 in his home. Born February 24, 1935 in the Berkley section of Norfolk, he was the son of the late William Raleigh and Ena Nelligar Pritchard. A veteran of both the U.S. Marine Corps and Coast Guard, he retired from Virginia Natural Gas as Supervisor of Gas Operations after 38 years. After retirement, he owned and operated his own gas equipment installation company for 20 years and became known throughout the Greater Tidewater area as “The Gas Man.” Mr. Pritchard was a member of the Qualified Gas Contractors, the National Rifle Association, the National Republican Party, and South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church.

Dick Pritchard’s first priority was always his family. He lived for his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. No one ever received more love and affection than his four granddaughters. They will always love and remember their Pa.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sandra F. Pritchard; two daughters, Holly P. Swinson and her husband, Kenny of South Mills, NC, and Loren P. Rossi and her husband, Michael of Evans, GA; four grandchildren, Emily D. Swinson, Alexandra L. Rossi, Rachel K. Rossi, and Sydney E. Rossi; two sisters, Anne Pritchard Deal and her husband Raymond of Chesapeake, and Charlotte “Susie” P. Uiselt and her husband, Otto of Sharon, PA; a brother, William “Buddy” R. Pritchard, Jr. and his wife, Patricia of Chesapeake; several nieces and nephews, and Kelly Bland Smith, the little girl who found her second family.

A celebration of his life will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake with Rev. Amos Eby officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and at the residence at all other times. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kempsville Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 62345
