Strong and Steady

Jay loved his music "loud & fast" but he was always "strong and steady" for our family. Jay was "Lee's friend" when I met him in the early 90s. in 1994, he and Lee drove a big truck with all the belongings I had in storage from Virginia to Atlanta. I had just taken on a new job there and those crazy kids braved the open road to help me out. That was the first time I got to spend quality time with Jay. After that week in Atlanta, he was not just "Lee's friend" he was my friend too! When Lee left us, Jay was "strong and steady" for our family. He was part of our family too because he felt the loss of Lee just as much as we did. He was such a rock for my sister Sharon Reams for all these years and I still enjoyed hearing him call my Dad Robert Reams "Mr. Reams" every time he came by the house. Our family so admired Jay for his love of life, his love for the outdoors and his selfless work with child protective services, child support enforcement and adults with disabilities. I've lived away from Norfolk for a long time but I always loved seeing Jay when I came home whether it was Christmas time, summertime or the famous St. Patrick's Day parties at Sharon's house! Thank you Jay for being "strong and steady" for our family. We all will miss you terribly but thank you for setting such a great example by helping others during your time in this world. Prayers and thoughts to Jay's family at this difficult time. I can only imagine there is a new band being formed in heaven with Lee, Jay and others. We all will be holding our ears to the heavens to hear that music... RIP Jbyrd
