Graham Funeral Home

The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Johnnie Tarkington can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

The lighting of a Memorial Candle not only provides a gesture of sympathy and support to the immediate family during their time of need but also provides the gift of extending the Book of Memories for future generations.

My brother

Johnnie Tarkington was my brother, my only brother.  His birthday was the day after mine and 12 years before me.  He loved to talk and never met a stranger.  In the past  couple of months he was in and out of the hospital and then spent 3 weeks in a rehab facility to help him walk better.  The nurses all liked him and he would joke around and make them laugh.  Even his doctors at Jencare liked him and called me to tell me how much they liked him and would miss him.  He watched the news on TV and would call me and say "did you hear "so and so" and tell me something about the news.  He called me to tell me about the guy that drowned a few weeks ago in Lake Smith.  I don't watch the news.  He loved his Red Skins and it didn't matter if they lost, to him.  Sunday, August 30th was his last time to see them play and when my son and I walked in his room, he said "they won".  I knew exactly what he was talking about.
