Johnnie Warren  Tarkington
Johnnie Warren Tarkington, 75, passed away September 1, 2015.  Johnnie was born in Elizabeth City, NC to the late Royce and Alice Barnard Tarkington.  He retired from the Navy Exchange at Little Creek Amphious Base, now called Joint Forces Expeditionary Base as a forklift operator after over 40 years.  He was a member of the Chesapeake Beach Volunteer Fire and Rescue for more than 20 years retiring as Captain after being hit by a car.  The driver had fallen asleep and veared off the road and hit Johnnie while standing outside in front of the Fire Department.  Prior to the Navy Exchange, Johnnie had worked as a plumbers helper at E. B. Sams, maintenance worker  at Nepratex, Industries before going to the Navy Exchange.  He was a member of Bayside Baptist Church in Virginia Beach.  Johnnie was an avid Red Skins fan and watched the games faithfully cheering them on.  In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his maternal grandparents, John Barnard and Lillie Cartwright; paternal grandparents, Henry and Clara Tarkington; infant sister Karen Alice; and brother, Royce Gordon.

Left to cherish his memory is his son, Mark Tarkington of Indiana; sisters, Virginia Mae King (Larry), Iris Allen (Bob), Sheila Deane, Sherry Reid, and Robin Hudson; nieces, Darlene King, Susan Allen, Karen Horn, and Donna Agee; nephews, David, Phillip, and Royce King, Eddie Allen, Richard (Scott) Reid; four great nieces; four great nephews; and many great-great nephews and nieces.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Bayside Baptist Church, 1920 Pleasure House Road, Virginia Beach, 23455.  Please visit his book of  memories at www.grahamfuneralhome.com to send words of encouragement to the family.
