CHESAPEAKEĀ—Thomas Maurice Poteat, 89, of the 200 block of North Hill Lane, went to be with the Lord on January 19, 2004 in Chesapeake. A native of Plymouth, NC, he was the son of the late Maurice Whitfield and Clara Elizabeth Norman Poteat and the husband of the late Lora LaBelle Taylor Poteat. He was a retired sheet metal estimator/planner and a member of Moyock Baptist Church .

He is survived by two daughters, Patricia P. Everton and her husband, Frank, and Janice P. Richardson; one son, James Alfred Poteat, all of Chesapeake; six grandchildren, Lynn Smith, Larry Richardson, Gregory B. Everton, Debra Genovese, James Stephen Poteat, and Gary F. Everton; four great grandchildren, Lisa Woolard, Suzanne and Michelle Richardson, and Parker Everton; and one sister, Olivia P. Allcox of Norfolk.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. in Moyock Baptist Church with Rev. Vic Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in Moyock Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. and at 1521 Blue Ridge Road, Chesapeake at all other times.
