CHESAPEAKE—Stella Marie Saunders, 84, of the 700 block of Willow Bend Drive, went to be with the Lord on March 1, 2005. A native of Arapahoe, NC, she was the daughter of the late David P. and Emmie Langston Hardison and the wife of the late Marshall Saunders. A retired waitress at W. T. Grant Company, she was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where she served as financial secretary for 10 years.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Garrish and her husband, Bobby of Ocracoke, NC; a son, Kenneth Austin and his wife, Cindy of Chesapeake; a sister, Bettie Rice of Arapahoe, NC; two brothers, David Hardison and his wife, Lib of Falls Church, VA and Albert Hardison and his wife, Dot of New Bern, NC; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Selma Spencer, Minnie Manning and Amber Balance and a brother, Leon Wise.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. in Fairview Baptist Church, Chesapeake with Pastor Lee Godfrey officiating. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel on Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall Saunders Building Fund of Fairview Baptist Church, 1204 Tatemstown Road, Chesapeake, VA 23325.
