Obituary for Justin Foster

Justin  Foster
Father Justin Foster, 73, formerly of Royalton, fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at his home.

Father Justin was born Sept. 4, 1942, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Albert Leo and Mary Esther (Babb) Foster.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force stationed at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota as an Air Force Policeman in the 862 Combat Defense Squadron from 1963 to 1967.

He then attended Tidewater Community College to pursue a career in nursing which led to worldwide travel. He then joined the Military Sea Lift Command acting as the nurse on the ship and installed as a Eucharistic Minister. He was ordained into the priesthood by His Eminence, the late Archbishop Dmitri of Dallas at the South at Christ the Savior Cathedral, Miami, Florida, in 2002. Father Justin served parishes in the Diocese of the South and the Diocese of the Midwest, including Saint James Mission, Port St. Lucie, Florida; Holy Apostles Church, Bloomington-Normal; and the Protection of the Holy Virgin Mary Church, Royalton; from which he retired in 2015.

He is survived by two daughters, Angela Ward of Minot, North Dakota, and Shana Maurer of Petersburg; five grandchildren, Andrea Ames, Nicholas Ames, Zoe Maurer, Shelby Ward and Jesse Ward; one great-granddaughter, Nadiya Novotny; a sister, Carolyn Foster of Chesapeake, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Norma Salter, Edith Mowles and Joan Slemp.

Funeral Mass for Father Foster will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 18, in Holy Protection of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Royalton, with the Very Rev. Frederick Joseph Janecek officiating. Formal prayer services for a priest will be at 5 p.m. today, June 17, at the church. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.

There will be an additional graveside service on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk. Please visit his book of memories at www.grahamfuneralhome.com where you may send words of encouragement to the family.
