CHESAPEAKE—James Alfred Goodwin, III, 62, of the 2500 block of Gilmerton Road, went to be with the Lord on March 15, 2004 in Portsmouth. A native of Norfolk County, he was the husband of the late Dorothy Jean Goodwin. A crane inspector with Norfolk Naval Shipyard, he was a member of Geneva Park Church of Christ, Living Stones Christian Church, and Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge #178.

He is survived by his mother, Josephine J. Barnes; a daughter, Kimberly Harris and her husband, Alex; a son, James C. “Chris” Goodwin, Sr. and his wife, Tina; one granddaughter, Gracie Goodwin; three grandsons, Christopher Goodwin, William Harris, and Matthew Goodwin, all of Chesapeake; one brother, Clarence B. Goodwin and his wife, Judy of Yorktown, VA; two nieces, Shelli Tate of Oklahoma City, OK and Kamberley Goodwin of Chesapeake; and a dear family friend, Jim Linsky of Chesapeake. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father, James Alfred Goodwin, Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. in Geneva Park Church of Christ, Chesapeake with Pastor Rick Watford officiating. Burial will be in the Barnes Family Cemetery, Chesapeake. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel on Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions should be made to the Living Stones Christian Church, “Be Bold” Building Fund, 1708 Southpark Court, Suite B, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
