CHESAPEAKE – Jacob Frederick Marks, 72, of the 400 block of Rutgers Avenue, went to be with the Lord February 23, 2005. A native of South Norfolk he was the son of the late Charles John Marks, Jr. and Mamie Louise Fenton Marks. He served his country in the United States Army, Virginia National Guard, and retired in 1991 as a foreman with C&P Telephone after 38 years of service . He was a member of South Norfolk Ruritan Club and Past president 1990-1991, the South Norfolk Masonic Lodge #339, Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies, Khedive Shrine Temple, and Telephone Pioneers of America. His hobbies included reading, gardening, caring for his tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers, and fishing.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Clarise Ashley Marks; a daughter, Deborah Marks Rippard and her husband, David; a son, Dennis Lee Marks; three grandsons, Jason Marks Rippard, all of Chesapeake, Jacob Anthony and Benjamin Adam Marks and their mother, Ellen Marks, all of Wise, Virginia; and a sister, Joanne Jones of Norfolk.

A graveside service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens with Rev. Wayne Carter officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.at Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, 1302 Jefferson Street, Chesapeake and at the residence at all other times.
