CHESAPEAKE—Howard Monroe Gilbert, 86, of the 1100 block of Edgewood Avenue, went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2004 in Chesapeake. Born in Bridgeport, CT, he was the son of the late Harrison Rudolph and Esther Brady Gilbert and was retired after 35 years of service as an allowance specialist in the Allowance Section of the Design Division of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Rosemont Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Anne Morrison Gilbert; one daughter, Terri Gilbert Amuial and her husband, Jacob, of Virginia Beach; one son, Donald Morrison Gilbert of Alexandria, VA; two sisters, Hazel Harper and Eliese Bernard, both of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Alisa A. Miller and her husband, Bradford, Joey S. Amuial and his wife, Minna, Amanda Gilbert, and Melissa Gilbert; one great granddaughter, Ema Amuial; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Katherine H. Gilbert.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel with Rev. Henry V. Napier officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. and at the residence at all other times.
