CHESAPEAKE-George Transit Sharp, 83, of Chesapeake passed away peacefully in the presence of his family March 15, 2014. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late William Jay and Martha Ramsey Sharp. He attended Immanuel Baptist Church in Chesapeake. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Virginia Carson Sharp.
He is survived by his son, George Transit Sharp, Jr. of Disputanta, VA; daughter, Darlene Renee Woods and her husband, Richard of Tarpon Springs, FL and youngest son, William Carson Sharp of Marathon, FL; sisters, Betty Ann Owins of St. Petersburg, FL and Martha Wildean Gordon of Gates County, NC; a sister-in-law, Deborah Carson of Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Raymond Sharp and wife, Michelle and Dustan Bain and husband, Kyle, all of Disputanta, VA; three great grandchildren, Kayla, Jared, and Jasmine Sharp and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A funeral service will be held in remembrance of his life on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1012 N. Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake with Pastor Dave Libengood officiating. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Rd. on Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The family wishes to thank the staff of Chesapeake Regional Hospital for their care.
