The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Fern Smith can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolence: She and Aunt Elva may have been far away in distance from those of us who remained in Illinois, but they both were close in our hearts. And she and her family always welcomed us and made me feel comfortable when putting us up on those few trips that were made to VA to reunite. There's a treasured picture of "Grampa" and "Gramma" Hoge with their five offsprings (Art, Earl, Fern, Elva, and my mom, Wilma) hanging on my bedroom wall, so the memory of all is daily jogged by the image. The fact that Aunt Fern outlived them all says much about her easy-going approach to life, and having that trait is how I will always remember not only her but the whole Hoge clan.

Condolence: Smith Family,

So sorry for your loss. Wow, 96 years old!!! Your mother was an outstanding woman and loved by many. I always thought a lot of her and your Aunt Elva. Thinking of you all during this difficult time.
