Everette Lee  McMahan Jr.
Everette “Mac” McMahan passed away in his sleep and went to be with his Lord on June 8, 2016 after a lengthy illness. He was born December 7, 1948 in Staten Island, New York to Everette L. McMahan, Sr. and Marion McMahan. He graduated from Great Bridge High School and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology and Master Degree in Science in Education from Old Dominion University. Mac was a retired math teacher in Smithfield, VA and in the Chesapeake Public Schools, teaching for 18 years. Mac coached wrestling at Oscar Smith High and Truitt Junior High.
Mac was baptized as a teen and remained a Baptist for over 50 years. He enjoyed music, singing and was a narrator and played guitar for a teen interdenominational group called Good News Singers. He was a member of the Woodland Heights Senior Choir. Mac loved sports and played little league baseball, basketball and adult softball in the church league for many years. He was a lifelong New York Yankees and Giants fan.

Mac was a volunteer with the Endependence Center of Virginia Beach which attempts to aid handicapped people. He tutored handicapped adults in their pursuit of higher education. He had a passion for the rights of and lobbied for the rights of the disabled. He won the Volunteer of the Year in 1997.
Everette “Mac” McMahan was preceded in death by his father, Everette L. McMahan, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Cathy; his mother, Marion McMahan; his brother, James McMahan and wife, Robin; his two sons, Eric L. McMahan and wife, Brandi; and Jason L. McMahan and wife, Megan; and four grandchildren, Riley, Max, Reese and Ethan, all of Chesapeake plus a host of other family and friends.

The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Saturday, June 11, 2016 from 10 to 11 a.m. A service to celebrate his life will begin at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Riverside Memorial Park. Donations in Mac’s memory can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Organization, FARA, 533 W. Uwchlan Ave., Downington, PA 19335.
