Obituary for Gary Warren Ward

Gary Warren Ward
Gary Warren Ward, 65, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by loved ones, on February 19, 2018. Born in Norfolk, he was the son of the late Glen and Thelma Boyette.

Gary was raised in South Norfolk and was a 1971 graduate of Oscar F. Smith High School. Throughout his lifetime, he continued to have a strong connection to the South Norfolk community. Gary had a successful career with Texaco Oil Company for 32 years. After retiring from Texaco, he went to work for W.C. Carpenter for 12 years before officially retiring to become a full-time Poppy to his grandchildren. He was a member in good standing with the South Norfolk Ruritan Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and a Master Mason with the Great Bridge Masonic Lodge No. 257, A.F. and A.M. He was a loyal and selfless friend to all who knew him, and a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and Poppy. There was nothing more important to Gary than his grandchildren and the endless love he had for them.

He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife of 34 years, Kathy; his children Lindsey Ward Kennedy and her husband, Dustin, Kerri Ward, Lauren Ward, and Gary Ward and his fiancé, Kandis McGinnis; grandchildren, Kailey and Nolan Kennedy, Colson, Hadley, Gunnar, and Tyler Ward and grandbaby number 7 due to arrive in May. Also left to cherish his memory are his siblings Linda, Brenda, Cheryl, Larry, and Peggy; and dearly loved nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 4-6 pm at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. A service to celebrate his life will be held Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 4 pm at Parkway Christian Center, 601 Volvo Parkway, Chesapeake, with Pastors Anthony and Morgan Hart officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Purplestride Tidewater 2018- Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, #teampoppy.
