Obituary for Captain Michael Joseph Tomko

Captain Michael Joseph Tomko
Michael “Captain Mike” Tomko, 55, went to be with Jesus on January 7, 2016 in the care of the Sentara Hospice House, with his sister Pat Cross at his side. Michael was born June 29, 1960 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital to Virginia & James Tomko.
Michael was a loving husband, father, brother, son, papa & friend. He leaves behind his wife of 25 years, Lydia Tomko & their three children. His daughter Jessica Adair, her husband Stephen Adair & their two children Mycah & Sawyer Adair. His daughter Meghan Tomko, her Fiancé Antone Nixon & son Maddox Nixon; & Mike’s only son Dylan Tomko. He also leaves behind his mother Virginia Tomko, brother James Tomko & sisters Patricia Cross & Donna Tomko.
Mike owned a successful charter boat business, known as the Four Winds, for over 30 years. He was also a retired fire fighter for the Chesapeake Fire Department. His most recent career path led him to Real Estate where he had the honor of obtaining the circle of excellence within the first full year of his career. Mike was very passionate about loving others & was named Volunteer of the Year, twice, at Bayside Elementary. He loved to spend his days there, having lunch with the children. He also won the Virginia Beach Rotary Club School Volunteer of the Year in 2015.
We would like to thank the Virginia Beach General & Norfolk General Neurology floors for their care. Most of all, we would like to thank the Sentara Hospice House for the loving care they gave Mike during this difficult time. His entire family was by his side every step of the way & we are so thankful that we have so many great memories to carry on with.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, January 16th from 11:00AM-2:00PM at the Lesner Inn located at 3319 Shore Dr. VB, VA. In lieu of flowers, we would like everyone to consider donating to the Bayside PTA by writing a check made payable to Bayside Elementary for the Mike Tomko Memorial at 5649 Bayside Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23455.
