Obituary for John "Jack" James Maloney Jr.

John "Jack" James  Maloney Jr.
CHESAPEAKE-John “Jack” James Maloney, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2014. He was born in Perry, New York on May 27, 1929. Jack served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1946-1949. Following his service in the Coast Guard, he worked for Virginia Electric Power Company as a lineman. He spent the majority of his working career with Sears, Roebuck and Company retiring after 33 years. He married Shirley June Barrett on March 13, 1951. They raised their three children in Hampton VA. In 1998, they moved to Windsor, VA and most recently settled in Chesapeake, VA. Jack was an avid outdoorsman with a love of fishing and hunting. He loved many sports but especially baseball and spent many hours on the baseball field both as a spectator for his children’s and grandchildren’s games but in his younger years as a coach and president of the Francis Mallory Little League in Hampton, VA.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Shirley; their three children, Sandy Sizemore and her husband, Terry of Chesapeake, VA, Larry Maloney and his wife, Jane of Kinston, NC and Lorri Ronis of Herndon VA; grandchildren, Craig and Amy Sizemore, Jamie and Joe Fitzgerald, Scott and Brooke Sizemore, Paul Maloney, Katie Maloney and Emily Ronis; great-grandchildren, Brinna Sizemore, Layla Sizemore, Luke Sizemore and Parker Fitzgerald and numerous other family and friends.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 2pm at Graham Funeral Home, Chesapeake with Pastor Jim Wolfcale officiating. Following the service the family will receive friends in the funeral home reception center for a time of fellowship. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
