VIRGINIA BEACH- Stephen Phillip Caplan, 73, passed away September 11, 2016 after a heroic battle with cancer. He was born in Portsmouth, Va and grew up in Sterling Point. The son of the late Bernard Caplan and Virginia White Caplan Lewis, he was also predeceased by his brother, Alan Bruce Caplan. He attended Clemson University and Old Dominion University as an English major. Stephen was a retired journalist who over the years worked for the Virginian-Pilot, the Washington Post and AP &UPI desks in NC as editor. He later entered the wine industry where he gave training seminars, tastings as well as working in all aspects of the industry, the last in managing a local wine store.

Left to cherish his memory are his sister Susan C. Sentman(Larry); nieces, Sydney Klein (Steve) & their children, Jackson, Harrison & Emery Sarah and Lisa Hill: nephews, Brian Sentman and Michael Hill; step-siblings, David, Hank, and Sandy Lewis and numerous extended family and dear friends.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Sentara Hospice House, 3760 Sentara Way, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. Please visit his Book of Memories at www.grahamfuneralhome.com where you may leave a note to the family.
