Graham Funeral Home

The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of David Dennis can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

not a story, just a thought

I wrote this when thinking about how David was a friend to me.

Sherrie Edwards often referred to David as a unicorn; unique and mythical. She grew up in Parliament Village with David and saw him as a stand out immediately. He was enigmatic and when he told a story you never really knew how much of it was true. David was always fun to be around because he was cheerful, witty and had a wonderful dark sense of humor.  He was a chameleon in that he was able to alter himself to please the people around him. He understood people, perhaps a little too much. David was able to connect with people of all sorts and sometimes he was able to see deep sadness in others. At times he seemed to need to remove himself from reality and the empathy he felt. He taught me how to laugh at my own sadness which is one of the best lessons I have learned in life. He hated seriousness and always enjoyed the simple pleasures; bacon and mayo sandwiches, bad TV, thrift store hats, comfy blankets, and late night telephone calls. He spent his time not giving a f#@ (the page wouldn’t upload without this change!) and living in the moment which is why he was wonderful to have around. He knew that life is superficial and fleeting….

Many people have clear memories of their ‘moments’ with David. When they share a story you can see that they are reliving a vivid happy time which they can almost see, hear, and feel again.  Not just your average story.…”ha-ha, remember when we”…..but a lucid, beautiful second in time.

That’s because he was a unicorn. He lived for those shared gems of time and we have those memories to treasure that he gave us. Luckily he introduced us to great music as well which will forever trigger flashbacks and put a smile on our faces.
