Obituary for Lawrence Hall Wynn

Lawrence Hall Wynn
Lawrence Hall “Babe” Wynn, 86, of Chesapeake, passed away Friday at his home.

Son of the late Lula Mae Browning Wynn and John Silas Wynn, he was born in Laurens County, Ga. on Jan. 20, 1929. At the age of 17, he traveled by Greyhound bus to Norfolk where he learned the trade of upholstery. He became a skilled craftsman and took great pride in his work. In 1959, with his wife by his side, he opened Wynn's Auto Upholstery, a business run today by his son.

Babe was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors. He continued riding his tractor and planting vegetables until his death. He also loved telling stories about his childhood on the farm, including feeding mules, milking cows, plowing fields and picking cotton.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rosa White Wynn, and four children, Sharon Margulies of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; Dempsey Wynn (Barbara) of Norfolk; Diane Kropewnicki of Zuni; and Lawrence Hall Wynn II (Chris) of Chesapeake. He is also survived by nine grandchildren - Rob, Bart, Adam, Megan, Sarah, Katie, Hunter, Trey and Rhiannon - and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers George Edmond Wynn (Jeanette) of Atlanta and Julian Gordon Wynn (Carolyn) of Norfolk.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. Visitation will follow the service. Pastor Mike Plasters of Deep Creek United Methodist Church will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the Deep Creek United Methodist Church building fund.
