Obituary for Wanda Hunter Nuckols

On Thursday, December 15, 2022, at the age of 92, Wanda Hunter Nuckols completed her earthly journey and passed to her forever home in heaven, leaving behind the family and friends she dearly loved. She was born on April 19, 1930 in Charlotte, NC. She was predeceased by her parents, Floyd A. Hunter and Jessie R. Hunter, and her beloved husband of 73 years, J. Frank Nuckols, Jr. Wanda graduated from Portlock High School in South Norfolk in 1947. She worked in banking and retail. Most of her life was spent at home caring for her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the delights of her life. Wanda was a faithful member of Indian River Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA and Floyd Baptist Church in Floyd, VA. She taught Sunday School and was active in Women's Ministry, Missions and Senior Adult Ministry. Wanda enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, working crossword puzzles and various types of handwork and sewing. Most recently, Wanda lived at Willow Creek Gracious Living Retirement Community where she never met a stranger and thrived on the friendships she made there. The love of Jesus shone out of Wanda's life. She wanted to be a blessing to everyone she met, and she was.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ruth N. Spangler and Michael H. Nuckols (Debbie); grandchildren, Blair H. Spangler (Miranda), Emily Spangler, Laura Nuckols and Diana Walters (Michael); great-grandchildren, Gracie, Jackson, Colt, Tucker, Luke, and Charlotte; sister-in-law, Bettie Nuckols; nephew, Mark Nuckols and numerous extended family and dear friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to dear friends, Larry Kowalsky and Susan VanHorn, for their loving attention and companionship; to the staff and residents of Willow Creek for their love and friendship; to caregivers Deneen, Loretta and Bonita for their loving and excellent care.

A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2023 at Indian River Baptist Church, 1600 Laurel Ave, Chesapeake, VA with Rev. Bert Kirk officiating.
