Obituary for Vera Joanne Haaker (Johnson)

Vera Joanne Haaker (Johnson) gently and peacefully passed away in her sleep 3/11/2023, Chesapeake, VA.
She was born in Dodge City Kansas, 10/12/1928 to Harry Noland Johnson and Vera Gladys Adee.
She was raised in the Kansas and Los Angeles area of California where she met and married Willard Charles Haaker (Willy) in January 1948. Together they had 5 girls who grew up in the Southern California beach town of Dana Point. They were Susan, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Janet and Patricia Haaker.

Joanne and Willy loved to travel. They went many places. Among them were Micronesia, Japan and Hawaii.

After retirement Willy and Joanne lived in Earp, CA beside the Colorado River. They also lived in Tumalo, Oregon on the Deschutes River and in Lake of the Ozarks Missouri on the Little Niangua River.

Joanne once told a friend that she was the “Last One Hanging onto the Donkey’s Tail.” And hang she did!
Mom lived a long and rich life to 94 years young, surpassing everyone in the recorded history of her family by 5 years.
She also lived in Abilene Kansas and Euless Texas until finally landing in Chesapeake, VA where she lived her last 5 years at Lighthouse Pointe. There she made many friends and memories. She will be greatly missed by friends and family.

Joanne is preceded in death by her daughters Janet, Susan and Elizabeth and her husband Willard.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Kernaghan of Rosarito Beach, Baja California, Mexico with her husband. Tim Kernaghan, and Patricia Adkins of Chesapeake, VA with her husband Jaye Adkins.
Also left behind are nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
