Obituary for Thomas "Tommy" Peyton Whitehurst

Thomas (Tommy) Peyton Whitehurst, 41, of Chesapeake, went to be with his Lord and Savior
on May 18, 2023 in Chesapeake, VA. He was predeceased by his loving father Claud S.
Whitehurst, Jr., his maternal grandmother Clara Elizabeth Fisher and nephew Christopher Grant
Moore.

He is survived by his loving mother, Faye Whitehurst, two sisters Tamyra Noland
(Randy) and Carol Jeanne Bobbitt, one brother Claud Whitehurst III (Julie), a son Caleb
Whitehurst, four nephews Micheal, Peyton, Parker, and Wyatt, and three nieces Beth, Alexis
and Lyla.

From a young age Tommy enjoyed playing soccer. He enjoyed watching the New York
Yankees with his father and he had a love for the Las Vegas Raiders football team. He worked
for and enjoyed doing lawn work/landscaping and was said to be such a fast and sufficient
worker who did amazing work. When he wasn’t doing these things Tommy loved eating all
sorts of foods. There was not much he did not like! He also enjoyed playing with his son and
nephews by watching them play sports or throwing a football around with them and playing
with his niece Lyla at the playground. When they were all little he loved to throw them in the air
and spin them around. They loved uncle Tommy. He has always enjoyed dressing up and did
not like to go to church dressed casually. Tommy was born and raised in church. He attended
Woodland Heights Baptist Church as a child and was dedicated there and later attended
Westwood Hill Baptist Church where he was baptized.

Tommy was a kind, compassionate person who had a love and care/concern for others. He
would do anything for others. Underneath all of this sweet person was a man who was deeply
hurting and struggling. Something triggered him into a dark path of addiction and we will never
truly understand what that was. Tommy fought this battle off and on for so long. He did not
ever ask to own this disease of addiction and he so desperately wanted to be without it.
Tommy was saved and he trusted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior; therefore he
received God’s forgiveness for his sins and gained the free gift of eternal life. He may not have
always made the right decisions in his short life as he was not perfect and nobody is for that
matter but in his heart he always knew the love and forgiveness of his Savior and he knew
where to go to find comfort—his Bible. Tommy is now at peace and no longer struggling and
we can find comfort in that as he is resting with his Lord and Savior, but he, like all of us, will
give an account for his actions. Romans 14:12 “So then, each of us will give an account of
ourselves to God.”

There will be a visitation at 12:30 PM on Tuesday June 6, 2023 in the Fellowship Hall at
Woodland Heights Baptist Church followed by a memorial service to celebrate and remember
his life by Rev. Dr. Steve Moses at 1:00 PM. His interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery
after the service. Graham Funeral Home, Chesapeake will be caring for arrangements. Please visit www.grahamfuneralhome.com to leave a condolence to the family.
