Obituary for Steven D. "Donnie" Clewis

Steven D. “Donnie” Clewis went home to be with the Lord July 21, 2023, at the age of 66. He was born January 24, 1957, to the late James and Lillian Clewis. Donnie was raised in South Norfolk all his life; there he met many friends over the years. Including Best friends, Donald and Bonnie Guithues of Belhaven N.C., and Charles Moore of Chesapeake, V.A. Gone before him but waiting for his arrival his friend, Stanley Cohen. Donnie attended school in Chesapeake until 7th grade when he went to work with his father learning the trade in siding, from there he became a master carpenter. In 1983 Donnie married Clara Clewis, the mother of his children, she was a lifelong companion and friend.

He was a hard worker and was known for many home repairs in the area including installing and repairing garage doors, having worked with Doormasters, Inc. for over 25 years. Donnie raced locally in his younger years at Dixieland Speedway, he had a need for speed. He was an avid Nascar fan, loved Dale Earnhardt and even had the opportunity to watch him race live at several tracks with family and friends over the years. Other things that Donnie loved were Busch beer and Western movies, especially with John Wayne and Star Trek. Of course, above all was his love for his family.

Donnie is survived by his children, Crystal Clewis (Kenny) of Portsmouth, Charity Clewis Snyder of Chesapeake, Chad Prater (Shelly) of Chesapeake and stepson, Lonnie Prater (Shelly) of Pensacola, FL. A lot of love from grandchildren, Caitlyn, Brook, Ethan, Alana, Corey, Liam and Amari; his sibling Larry Clewis (Sereda) and Teresa Belvins; and lots of friends and family left to cherish his memories. Donnie was Preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Marlin Clewis and Kerry Pross.

A service to celebration his life will be held Monday, July 31, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake with Pastor Tracy Gregory officiating.

After the service concludes the family will accept visitors at the home of Crystal Clewis, 2 Locust Lane, Portsmouth V.A. 23701.
