Virginia Beach - Shirley Barrett Maloney, 90, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2020. She was born on January 13, 1930 in Hampton, VA to the late Earl and Gertrude Watson Barrett. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her loving husband, Jack Maloney and siblings, Earl Barrett, Jr. and Barbara Barrett. She worked as a Training Specialist for the Army at Fort Monroe and retired in 1993.
She married Jack Maloney on March 13, 1951. Together they raised their three children in Hampton, VA. In 1998, they moved to Windsor, VA and subsequently to Chesapeake, VA. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She spent many hours supporting her children and grandchildren’s activities, including serving in the PTA and as a room mother in her children’s early school years. She was her grandchildren’s greatest fan and spent many hours at baseball games, gymnastics meets and birthday parties.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Sandy Sizemore and her husband, Terry of Chesapeake, VA, Larry Maloney and his wife, Jane of Kinston, NC, and Lorri Ronis of Herndon, VA; grandchildren, Craig and Amy Sizemore, Jamie and Joe Fitzgerald, Scott and Brooke Sizemore, Paul Maloney, Katie and Matt Stump and Emily Ronis; great-grandchildren, Brinna Sizemore, Layla, Luke and Tristan Sizemore, Parker and Carson Fitzgerald, and many other family and friends.
Due to the current health crisis, memorial services are being postponed and a future date will be announced.
