Shelly Ann Suggs, 45, of Hertford, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 12th, 2019. She is survived by her parents, John and Donna Suggs, her sister, Sandi Ayres (Chuck), her beloved niece, Susie Ayres, her special Aunt, Ann Bellamy (Tom), her cousins, Courtney Bellamy and Chris Suggs, her loving uncle, Lindsey Suggs (Debi), and an extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Shelly graduated from Currituck County High School in 1992. She was first-baseman when the team won the 1991 State Championship and came in second in the 1992 State Championship. She also excelled in basketball and volleyball.
Despite a spinal injury she lived her life with drive, compassion, kindness, and always with gratitude. There is nothing she enjoyed more than spending time with her niece. They loved to play cards and board games and watch anime together.
She enjoyed hanging out on her porch with her friends, the "porch posse." She enjoyed 80's music, science-fiction, and was an X-Files encyclopedia. She also enjoyed collecting knives, shot glasses, and pens.
Shelly was an avid animal lover. She had many dogs over the years, always choosing to adopt a Senior dog to ensure he/she had a good home at the end of their lives. There's no doubt in her family's minds that Shelly is currently spending all of her time at the Rainbow Bridge.
To all who knew her, she was the kindest, funniest, and most sarcastic person they knew. She was a good human and we will all take her life lessons with us into our own lives, living life as she would - with gratitude and joy.
Shelly's Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, June 23rd at 2pm at the Shawboro Ruritan Club (785 NC-34, Shawboro, NC 27973). Please dress comfortably (not formally) and wear Shelly's favorite color - purple.
In lieu of flowers, Shelly asked that donations be made to your local animal shelter, SPCA or pet rescue.
