Obituary for Shelly Malinda George

Shelly Malinda George, 59 years of age, passed peacefully in her sleep on January 22, 2021.
Born on June 14, 1961 in Norfolk, VA to the late William T. Manners and Julia “Gail” Manners; Shelly grew up in the Ghent section of Norfolk and graduated from Maury High.
Shelly’s strength, courage and determination helped her become a three-time cancer survivor. A bright light for so many; her friends and family knew her for her witty sense of humor and her huge heart. Shelly loved the Lord and would do anything for anyone, but she also had no problem putting anyone in their place! She enjoyed singing and dancing, knitting, crafting, and cutting up with her friends. Most of all, she loved being with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. A proud Mimi, she treasured time spent with her grandchildren, William and Nathaniel, at “Mimi’s Beach.”
Shelly is preceded in death by her husband Robert C George, her parents Bill and Gail Manners, her brother William T. Manners Jr. and her ex-husband and good friend Bobby Peirsol.
Left behind to cherish the memory of Shelly are her daughter Malinda and son in law Ernest Childs, her son Keithen Peirsol; her grandsons William and Nathaniel Childs, her sister Kelly Graves; her Aunt Beth and Uncle Jeff Fruge, her Aunt Julie Garland, her Aunt Leslie Copeland, her best friend Connie Leitch, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Due to covid restrictions, we are postponing a celebration of life at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the memory of Shelly George to IAL- The International Association of Laryngectomees.
