On Monday, August 2, 2021, Ruth L. Powell of Chesapeake, VA passed on to her heavenly home. She was born in Meadpoka, WV on August 31, 1924, to the late Sylvannis and Vercie Bailey. In 1941 she graduated as Valedictorian from Mark Twain High School. She worked for Western Union in Washington DC during WWII and married her childhood sweetheart, Dennis Wall in 1943. They moved to Chesapeake in 1952. She worked for Chesapeake Public Schools for over 30-years as a School Bus Driver. She volunteered countless hours at her church, for Meals-on-Wheels, and the Navy Relief. After Dennis passed, she married Robert Powell in 1993 and was widowed again in 2002. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Douglas Wall, Cheryl Wall, and Rama Thompson; her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
She was a 67-year member of Great Bridge Community Church, where a celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at 11am followed by interment in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Rd. Chesapeake on Wednesday August 4, 2021, from 6 - 8pm.
