Rachel Durbin, lovingly known as Brooklyn Rae, an angel on earth, joined the heavenly angels on October 4, 2022 following a valiant battle from complications arising from childbirth. Rachel, age 22, was born in Chesapeake, Virginia, the daughter of John and Kimberly Gartman Durbin. Those who survive her to cherish her memory, in addition to her parents, are her two sons; Devon(father Devon Gunn) and Marcelo (father Marcus Johnson), maternal grandparents; Wayne and Josephine Brickhouse, paternal grandparents; Matthew and Georgene Durbin, sisters; Sarah Houghton and Bet Houghton, brother; John Durbin Jr., and many uncles, aunts, cousins and dear friends especially including Marcus Johnson and Devon Gunn.
Rachel will always be remembered as that spunky, freckled face little girl who loved life and loves the people around her. She grew into a confident woman who was committed to her family and her opportunities to develop a fulfilling career. She was always there for her parents and grandparents, sisters and friends. Rachel was a caring and compassionate mother and her two sons were the guiding light in her sky.
She was always there for her family and friends when they were facing adversity. Rachel was a bright energetic individual who had a wonderful and exciting future that was cut short way before her time. Each of us have fond memories of times with her in which joy, laughter and tears followed from the interactions that we would have with her. Those memories will remain with all of us for as long as we may live.
A Memorial service will be held at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, Virginia at 3 pm, October 7, 2022.
