Peggy Jones McDowell, 85, passed away May 5, 2020. Peggy was born in Covington, VA to the late Moody and Betty Virginia Smith Jones. She was predeceased by her husband, John Vaden McDowell, Sr. Peggy was a faithful member of Indian River Baptist Church, Chesapeake.

She is survived by her loving children, Pam Shirley, Melissa Bailey and her husband, Billy, and John V. McDowell, Jr. and his wife, Amy; grandchildren, Jason and his wife, Gina, Amanda, Trace, Johanna, Breanna and Bryce; and one great-grandson, Noah; and other extended family.

To adhere to CDC guidelines for social distancing there will be no formal visitation. Those choosing may visit Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Thursday, May 7, 2020 from 10 to 4 p.m. A private service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, May 8, 2020 at 12 noon with Pastor Bert Kirk officiating. She will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Indian River Baptist Church, 1600 Laurel Ave, Chesapeake, VA 23325.
