Obituary for Paul Spence Tolson

Paul Spence Tolson Jr. 78, of Chesapeake, Virginia passed away June 6th, 2022. Paul is the son of late Beulah Dupree Tolson and Paul Spence Tolson. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Herbert Dupree. Paul was a man of many things to many people. To his children he brought them life and gave them the entire world by teaching them everything he knew. He was able to touch everyone’s life in a way similar to that of a first Disney trip. When it came to his family he would go above and beyond to make them happy and do right by them. It didn’t matter if it were a close family friend or his grandchildren, he would drop everything to be right there if they needed anything. He was everything you would want and more in a man. He was honest, compassionate, warm-hearted, strong-willed and so much more. His grandchildren cherished their “Poppy-days”; these were the days that Paul made time for each of his grandchildren as he did with his own children when they were young. It didn’t matter what it was, he was always grateful for anything no matter how big or small he always made sure to acknowledge the work. Paul was an extremely dependable man that you could always count on to be happy for any success you had; and could find the words to help with anything else you might be going through. He certainly knew his way around many obstacles and wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty; he always had a thirst for knowledge except for when it came to modern technology, then things would get a little scary.
In the 60 years of being with the love of his life, Lynda Ray Tolson, the puppy love never quit. From the moment they met to his very last breath he had his whole world and everything he ever needed in her. They never stopped acting like kids when they were together. He would joke on her and mess with her early in their day about the silliest little things. He never stopped thinking of her and would always do the small things for her like putting smiley faces out of berries in her oatmeal to make her day. Linda was and still is Paul’s best friend and the one and only love of his life. He will be missed by so many beyond what words are capable of.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lynda Ray Tolson; children, Paul S. Tolson, III and Christine Tolson Armstrong; his grandchildren, Sterling, Morgan and Landon Armstrong, Spencer, Faith, and Jeremiah Tolson; brother, Hubert Dupree; nieces and nephews, Herbert Ray Dupree, David Lee Dupree, Michael Dupree and Linda Ray Shankle; special cousins, Mary Lou Hill and Earle Hill; best friend, Houston White, close family friends, Marty Keel, and Curtis Key; and loved by so many more.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 12, 2022, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake, VA 23320.
