Obituary for Mary Louise Jurewicz (Mary Louise Rogers)

Mary Louise Jurewicz, a 72-year-old Erie, PA native, departed this earth after an extended illness on January 29, 2022. She received Last Rights on Saturday evening and then on a rare snowy morning in Norfolk, Virginia, she peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving husband and best friend of 58 years and two of her children.

She received great satisfaction in her role as a Navy wife. She also spent decades working in political service at the State and National level. She was proud of her work helping constituents solve their issues with their Representatives’ assistance.

Her past-times included: traveling- especially to The Thimble Shoals Lighthouse, VMI, and to Williamsburg; playing Pinochle with her friends; quilting; gardening; solving Sudoku; reading; and hosting St. Patty’s Day Parade parties.

Mary Lou is survived by her husband Peter Jurewicz; her four children including Janice Consolacion, Peter Jurewicz, Jr., Andrew Jurewicz, and Leah Barber with their spouses and partners, ten grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three brothers: Max Rogers and her dear sister-in-law Emelia, Marty Rogers, and Skip Rogers. One of her great joys was to see her entire family reunited together, whom she loved “bunches and bunches.”

The family would like to express profound gratitude to the neighbors and Intrepid Hospice Workers. So many new and old friends have helped Mary Lou and the entire family continue to be positive each day, by showing love through their thousands of kind acts and phone calls through the past four years.

A private service honoring Mary's life will be held in private by the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to “Reading is Fundamental” and/ or to the Norfolk EVMS Organ Biorepository who use donated tissue to research cures for many diseases, including neurological disorders.
