Obituary for Marion Reardon Beedie Anderson (Reardon)

Marion Reardon Beedie Anderson, 92, died December 4, 2022, in Richmond. She was born on October 17, 1930, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Norfolk. She was a member of Elizabeth River Baptist Church in Chesapeake, and Cambridge Baptist Church in Henrico.
Growing up, she lived in Villa Heights, Berkeley, and South Norfolk. She graduated from Maury High School in 1949.
After graduation she worked for CandP and Pacific Telephone Companies from 1949 to 1955. From 1969-1980, she worked as a medical assistant and office manager for Steingold Family Practice. Then from 1980-2003, she was employed by Romero Family Practice as a medical assistant and administrative assistant.

Marion was an avid reader. Whenever she moved to a new city, the first place she looked for was the library. She was also a great bowler with many trophies to her name.
During her daughters’ time in elementary school, she served as Girl Scout leader.

Marion leaves behind many, many friends in Chesapeake and Richmond.
She was a member of several organizations in Chesapeake. She was a past president of the Chesapeake General Hospital Ladies’ Auxiliary and the Southside of Chesapeake Business and Professional Women’s Club. She served as a board member of the Luncheon Pilot Club and the Women’s Division of the Chesapeake Chamber of Commerce. Marion was also a member of Tidewater Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Iota Business Sorority, Tidewater Association of Medical Assistants, and the Fraternal Order of Police Ladies’ Auxiliary.

She loved listening to and telling jokes and shaggy dog stories. More than once, her jokes would show up in sermons at Elizabeth River Baptist. She relished sharing them with her caretakers, family, and friends.

After moving to Richmond in 2013, she continued her volunteer work at Lakewood Manor, where she resided. While there, she joined the thespian group and participated in two plays.

Her friends and family will miss the birthday calls she made where she sang her “Happy Birthday.” She loved singing “I Love You a Bushel and a Peck” to her great-grandchildren.

Marion was the daughter of Catherine Disney McLin, the adopted daughter of Virginia and Robert Reardon. She was the widow of William E. Beedie, Jr. and the sister of Ellis McLin, all predeceased.

Survivors include two daughters, Gini Miller (Eddie) of Richmond, and Cathy Hockman (Larry) of Moyock; four grandsons, Jeremy Hockman (Faith) of Georgia, Matthew Hockman (Brianna) of Chesapeake, Travis Miller of Asheville, and Justin Hockman of Moyock; seven great-grandchildren, Hunter, Halle, Chase, and Ryder Hockman of Georgia, and Samuel, Asher, and Avery Hockman of Chesapeake; and nieces, Mary Vickhouse, Phyllis Smith, and Joanie Buchanan.

The family will receive visitors at Graham Funeral Home on Saturday, December 10, from 12:30 to 1:30. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Please visit www.grahamfuneralhome.com to leave a condolence to the family.
