Obituary for Lora Hodges Ware

Lora Hodges Ware, 86, passed away on July 8, 2022 at Chesapeake Regional Hospital after a long battle with congestive heart disease. Lora was born on December 21, 1935 in Lenoir County, North Carolina to the late Enoch and Eva Hodges. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband and father of her children, Joseph R. Barlow, Sr. and by her third husband, Richard B. Ware. She was also preceded by her brothers Edgar and John Hodges and sister Sallie Cashwell.

Lora was employed by the Chesapeake City Police Department in the position of central records and retired in 1997. She was a long-time member of Great Bridge Baptist Church.

She leaves behind two children: son Joseph R. Barlow, Jr. and his wife, Holly and daughter, Alice B. Harwell. Two grandchildren; Jordan A. Barlow and wife Amanda and Brittany Lang and husband Joey. Her brother-in-law and sister-in law, Don and Maggie Ware and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and long-time friends. The family wishes to recognize and thank Donna Miller, friend and neighbor to Lora, for her friendship and support for many years.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at Graham Funeral Home Friday, July 15, 2022. The family will receive guests at 12:00 pm and the service will begin at 1:00 pm with Pastor Richard Castleberry officiating. Burial will follow at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow the service at Great Bridge Baptist Church.
