Obituary for Lewis Stelon Manning Sr.

On October 3, 2023, Lewis Stelon Manning, Sr. passed away peacefully to his heavenly home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 90. Lewis was the son of the late Paul David Manning and Ida Elizabeth (Mobley) Manning. Lewis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. Lewis was born in Martin County, North Carolina but moved to Virginia in 1956. He was a veteran of the United States Army. After the Army he worked in the propane gas business, until he began his career as a truck driver which he loved, driving coast to coast. He retired from Overnight Transportation in 1993.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 64 years, Betty Bee (Small) Manning, with whom he shared a life filled with love, warmth, and companionship. They met in Chesapeake, Virginia and it was love at first sight. Lewis and Betty absolutely loved to travel, and met their goal of visiting every state in the United States as well as cruising the Caribbean Sea multiple times. Lewis loved nothing more than spending time with his beautiful wife, children and grandchildren. He was always there for them, whether it was helping them renovate a home, taking care of a sick grandchild, or cheering them on in a local football game. Lewis loved fishing, camping, riding the golf cart at The Villages, ”garage sitting”, and tinkering around his home. Lewis possessed a great sense of humor and the ability to make you smile every time you were in his presence.

Lewis’s legacy lives on through his sons Lewis Manning, Jr., Timothy Manning with wife, Melanie, and Michael Manning with wife, Diane. Fondly known as PawPaw, he was an adoring, loving grandfather to Brandy Bradley (Chris), Jeff Manning (Ashlynne), Jordan Graupman (Andrew), Austin Manning (Michelle), H.L. Wilson, IV, Jayson Manning (Alyssa), Wynter Manning (Jeremy), Kristen Guynes and Christopher Merkley. He was blessed with six beautiful great-grandchildren Olivia, Jude, Warner, Ruth, Molly, and Norman whom he treasured and cherished. He is survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Beatrice Mobley, Isolene Manning, Emma Jenkins, Pauline English, Frank Manning, and Hattie Jean Robinson.

A private celebration will be held with close family and friends to celebrate his life and legacy. To leave a condolence message or share memories of Lewis, please visit www.grahamfuneralhome.com
