Jason Christopher Giovenco-Montano, 39, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Jason will best be remembered as someone who had a great passion for Hunting and the Outdoors. He would share his stories with anyone who was willing to listen. Jason had been hunting since the age of twelve. He grew up in Yorktown, Virginia surrounded by woods full of trees that his brother, friends and he used to explore. Jason’s final hunting trip was shared with his youngest child, Jonah. It was Jonah’s first hunting trip.
Jason graduated from Bayside HS in 2000 and went on to receive his Bachelor’s of Science and Social Science at Radford University in 2005, where he also played Rugby. He was a Lieutenant for the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office. A career that had him working at the Norfolk City Jail, the Juvenile and Domestic Court, Civil Process and eventually to the Norfolk Sheriff’s Training Academy. As a SERT Team Leader and Firearms Instructor, Jason mentored, guided, and instructed many trainees with compassion and love. He was known for playing pranks and just being an overall “Goofball” just to bring a smile on someone’s face.
Jason met his bride while training for the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office. He played hard to get at first, because of how dedicated he was to wanting to be the best in their Academy class. They passed notes to each other like they were in High School. The rest is history.
Jason leaves behind his loving Wife, Samantha, daughter, Gabrielle, and son, Jonah. He is also survived by his mother, Carol Ann, father, Brian, brother, Brian, Mother-in-Law, Lynda, Father-in-Laws, Keith and Fidel, Brother-in-Law, KJ, Sister-in-Laws, Carmen and Tonya and several nieces, nephews, cousins and Grandmother, Ruth.
