Obituary for James Linwood Taylor

James Linwood Taylor , 89, went to be with the Lord on May 11, 2023. James was born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina to the late Claude and Heddie Miller Taylor. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his first wife, Helena; and the mother of his daughter, Carrie Stringfield; siblings, Marilyn, Roosevelt, and Claude. He served faithfully retiring from the U.S. Navy serving on Destroyer duty in the Mediterranean and Caribbean earning four good conduct ribbons. He subsequently retired from the Newport News Shipyard with 44 years combined service to his country. James was a faithful servant of God and spent countless hours reading the Bible and learning scripture in depth. He had a love for fixing things, yard work, and fishing with the "guys". James was a longtime member of Rock Church in Virginia Beach where he served as a Deacon and subsequently a member of Eagles Christian Center International in Raleigh, NC. Daddy loved going to family gatherings and cooking for them.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved daughter, Heddie "Marie" Taylor-Davis and her husband Coleman; wife, Pearly M. Taylor and her children, Della and Donald; sister, Carolyn Taylor Osborne; 2 grandchildren, Cameron and Courtney and their dog, Phoenix. He is also survived by countless extended family members, and dear friends.

The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Rd. Chesapeake, on Friday, May 19, 2023 from 6-8pm. A service to celebrate his life will be held at funeral home on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 11am with Rev. Mary Strickland and Pastor Harold Council officiating. Burial will be in Albert G.
