James Martin Sands, 90, went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 12, 2020. He was born in Wise County, VA to the late William Basil and Wilma E. McCall Sands and was also predeceased by his beloved wife, Frances Jane Sands. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Airforce and subsequently retired from the Naval Air Rework Facility as an aviation mechanic. He was a member of South Norfolk Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA and previously of First Baptist Church of Coburn, VA.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Janey M. Lawrence and her husband Steve, James M. Sands, Jr., William Basil Sands and his wife Shannon; daughter-in-law, Bernadette Sands; sisters, Mary Allsbrook, Glenda Maine; brother, Dennis Sands; grandchildren, Stevie Jr., Adam, Brian, Brittany, Ryan, Basil Jr.; 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 15, 2020 from 6-7:30pm at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kemspville Rd., Chesapeake. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 17, 2020 at 11am in Temple Hill Memorial Park, 2529 Memorial Drive, Castlewood, VA 24224.
