James Edwin Pierce, 88, passed away peacefully as he entered the gates of heaven to be with his Lord and Savior, on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, with his loving family by his side, at Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia.
He was born on August 31, 1934, in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Lymon Franklin Pierce and Helen Emma Brady. He is also predeceased by his brothers, Linwood Pierce, Leon Pierce, and Rodney Pierce; his sisters, Irene Pierce Stewart, Faye Pierce Chappell, and Diane Pierce Atkinson.
He is survived by his wonderful wife, whom he adored, Ruth Dillon Pierce. They were truly blessed to spend 67 beautiful years together. His children, Nancy Pierce Ward (Robert), James Pierce, Jr. (Page), and Karen Pierce Bailey; his four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Copeland (Jason), Ryne Bailey, James Ward, and Zachary Ward; and two sweet great- grandchildren, Kinsley Nicole Bailey and Luke Pierce Copeland; and his only remaining sibling, Joan Pearson.
He was employed by Norfolk and Southern Railroad for 37 years and was blessed to have enjoyed a wonderful retirement for the past 30 years. He was also active with the South Norfolk Masonic Lodge #339 AF and AM for 65 years.
He loved his family unconditionally, especially our Mom, and always told us how much he loved us. Not only did he tell us, he showed us by everything he was always doing for us daily. He was our "Rock" and we will miss him dearly. We look forward to the day when we will all be reunited as a family.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 7, 2023, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in a private family service at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
