Obituary for Jackie Liverman Sorey

Jackie L. Sorey, 83, of Chesapeake, Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 17, 2022. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family just as she wanted. Jackie was born in Columbia, North Carolina to Bingham and Minnie Liverman and was the youngest of 11 children. Jackie moved to Norfolk, Virginia when she was five years old and later graduated from Norview High School.

Jackie met the love of her life, Cecil Sorey, on a blind date and they were married for over 59 years. Jackie was a loving wife, devoted mother, and gloating grandmother and great-grandmother affectionately known as Memaw. Anyone who knew Memaw well knew that she did things her way and, on her terms, but always managed to do so in a loving manner and with class.

Jackie loved the Lord with all her heart and served him faithfully. She was a member of Peoples Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia, and previously a member of Providence Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bingham and Minnie Liverman, ten brothers and sisters, and one great granddaughter, Moxie Jessee.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Cecil Sorey; her daughters, Sharon Sorey Lewis (Dave), and Cindy Sorey Lynch; and a son, Earl Sorey (Patricia); ten grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. One of Jackie’s favorite sayings was that she was “rich in family” and she delighted in spending time surrounded by her loved ones.

Jackie was a Godly woman who left a legacy to her family of God’s amazing love and grace and was an example to all who knew her.
