Obituary for Jack O. Brothers

Jack Olivet Brothers, 89, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 26, 2023. He was born December 16, 1933, in Elizabeth City, NC to the late John Olivet Brothers and Grace Bundy Brothers.

After growing up on the family farm, Jack served in the United States Coast Guard and retired after 20 years. He ended his career working in ship building before starting a home repair business.

As a member of Kempsville Baptist Church for almost 50 years, he served his church faithfully as a deacon, a greeter, a Sunday School director, and led the parking lot ministry. As a Gideon, Jack served in several capacities including coordinator of scripture distributions for the Chesapeake West Camp.

Jack was an avid woodworker, gardener, handy man, driving enthusiast, nature lover and camper. He will be remembered for his spirit, big smile, and overall joy for living, and will be missed by many.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janice Brothers, his three daughters Lynne Zultanky (George), Lynda Strickland (Steve), and Diane Cook (Alex); eight grandchildren, Skye Zultanky (Rebecca), Christopher Strickland (Kelsey), Harrison Strickland (Bailey), Jackson Strickland, Chandler Strickland, Alexandria Frederking (Daniel), Simon Cook, Andrew Cook; two great grandchildren, Cameron Zultanky and Judah Zultanky; two sisters, Connie Quesenberry and Kaye Smith (Dean); two sisters-in-law, Marie Smith and Margaret Stallings.

His funeral service will be held at Kempsville Baptist Church, 5203 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2023 with Dr. Kelly Burris officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
