Obituary for Hugh Hackett Pratt Jr.

Hugh Hackett Pratt Jr, born May 29, 1933, in Greenwood, South Carolina, went to his eternal rest with Jesus on November 5, 2022.

From an early age, Hugh had a heart of service and a love for humanity. He earned degrees in Sociology at the University of South Carolina, and a Masters degree from “Ole Miss.” He began his career as a social worker which led him into the role of a college professor. He eventually found his true love in ministry where he met his other great love, Reverend Anne Paris.

At 73, Hugh retired from the Christian Church/Disciples of Christ and founded a prison ministry called Jesus the Liberator Seminary in Buffalo New York. Along with Reverend Anne Paris he launched a new career authoring books, writing plays, and co- pastoring the Harriet Tubman Christian Church/Disciples of Christ at Paradise House in Buffalo.

In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by his sisters Emily Ann Hutchison and Margaret “Peggy” Buchanan, and “bonus” son Olan Montgomery.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Anne Paris; daughter Kursti Woolard and son-in-law Tony Woolard; “bonus” sons Chuck McCuen, Mike Montgomery, Tom Montgomery, and Tim Moore; granddaughters Kristina Gibson, Megan Mason, and Courtney Bond; great grandchildren Jackson Pratt, Olivia Whitlow, Charlotte Gibson, Blake Mason, Braxton Mason, Isabella Bond. He will also be missed by his wife’s children and grandchildren.

Services will be held on November 10, 2022, at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road Chesapeake VA 23320. The Funeral service will begin at noon. Viewing is from eleven to noon. Graveside committal immediately following at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, 524 Cedar Road Chesapeake VA 23322.
