Obituary for Harrell Russell Gordon Glenn Sr.

To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord.

On Friday morning, July 26th, 2019 at 1:35 a.m. Harrell Russell Gordon Glenn, Sr. departed from this life to attain his eternal home in heaven. He was surrounded by his loving family as he took his last breath and did not leave this world alone.

Harrell was born March 31st, 1960 in Norfolk Virginia to Bertha Tillery Glenn and the late Willie Troy Glenn. He went to school in Virginia Beach and graduated from Bayside High School, he then went on to Norfolk State University where he decided he wanted to work in the masonry field. He completed the apprentice program at Snow Jr and King, Inc. and later went on to become an Assistant Foreman with the company. Harrell worked for Snow Jr and King, Inc. for 39 years; he retired in 2012 due to going on dialysis but continued working in the office part-time until the time of his kidney transplant.

There are many great things we could say about Harrell. He loved his family more than anything. He was a very kind and caring person; he would help anyone that he could. He had an incredible sense of humor and would light up a room with his smile and great laugh. He was extremely creative and was a problem solver. He took pride in his trade and built many beautiful things throughout his career as a brickmason. He loved being outdoors, fishing, and had a huge appreciation for nature. He was a sci-fi type of guy. He loved anything related to science fiction and was very interested in astronomy or anything space related. He loved to cook and enjoyed making his own spices, sauces, and recipes.

Harrell always had a love for sports; we all know how much he loved his Washington Redskins. As a teenager, he played sports and he was also a football coach during that time. After becoming a father, he coached his son's baseball and basketball teams and was a number one team dad for his daughter's competitive cheer squad. He was a loving, caring, and supportive father.

Harrell was a family man; he was an amazing husband, daddy, papaw, son, and brother. Left to cherish his memory besides his mother is his loving wife of 39 years, Marilyn (Lynn); son, Harrell Jr.; and daughter, Nicole Monique. He has three grandchildren, Sierra Marie, Anthony Troy, and Mason Isaiah Glenn; and one brother, Troy H. Glenn of Fredericksburg, VA. Besides his father, he was also predeceased by wife, Malini C.; sister, Adriane Spence Townsend and her husband Kevin Townsend; one brother and sister in law, Johnnie, Sr. and Dianne Marshall of North Carolina. He is additionally survived by 10 nieces and nephews, 3 aunts, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Monday, August 5, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. A service to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 11 am at Vineyard Community Church, 4444 Expressway Dr, Virginia Beach.
