Condolence: To Mr. McGovern's family. Mr. McGovern was my gov't teacher at Cox HS class of 1971.I will always remember him saying that long green line is getting shorter and shorter. He always made me laugh and he was a wonderful teacher. It is obvious to me that he was a Christian and as he now stands before our Lord Jesus will say a life well lived.

Condolence: George was our Coach, Teacher amd Mentor. He allowed his students the to sicceed while he was comfortable to be in the background, not taking any measure of credit for our success. There was way he had of having insight into our lives and guiding us as though we were family. Our menories of our youth and having George as as a big part of those menories will never let his influence on us vanish. Our love to the Family and our sorrow for your loss.

Condolence: Dear McGovern family, You have my deepest sympathy and are in my prayers for comfort at this time. Mr. McGovern was a special man and he will be missed by all those who knew him. Mr. McGovern was my Principal when we opened Landstown Middle School back in 1992. He always supported us as a staff and often told us that we needed to be sure to take care of our family first, because the job would still be there, but our loved ones may not. He also reminded us to "think about what's best for the kids," when we made decisions that would affect the students in our care. I think of him when the going gets tough and remember his motto that "No one rises to low expectations." I have that banner in my school poster box after all these years. My students hear me say this often to encourage them to be the best they are capable of being. May God bless you all with happy memories during this time as you grieve together. Cherish those stories and share them often with each other as a blanket of comfort in the remembrance of his love.

Condolence: I send my deepest condolences to Mr. McGovern's family. He was a great and inspirational coach and teacher to many over the years. I remember his government class like it was yesterday, although it was over 40 years ago. Mr. McGovern was a great inspiration to me in 12th grade (class of '71). I have spent 36 years working in government which can be directly attributed to his inspirational teaching. Again, my deepest condolences for your loss.

Condolence From: Mary Cosio
Condolence: I was a student of Mr McGovern at Frank W Cox High School. I remember his method of teaching and lectures as being very dynamic. He always had my attention and especially when the class discussed Watergate. Mr McGovern was very passionate about honesty, integrity, and just doing the right thing. I received a B in his class, which was my highest grade. He really cared about his students and wanted us to be our very best. I always appreciated him and wanted to thank him. I've lived in California since the early 80s and in recent years have thought a lot about the teachers who have made a difference in my life. The ones who made an impact on my way of thinking and doing things. I wish I had been able to tell Mr McGovern he was one of those teachers. I'm sure he was for many. Being married to a doctor and having a daughter in surgical oncology residency, it saddens me to know this great and giving man, our dear teacher experienced what my husband and daughter talk about frequently, cancer. Our Lord now has him in his loving arms and he's sleeping with the Angels. Thank you Mr McGovern. You were the best. Mary Palacios Cosio

Condolence: My high school government teacher. He inspired us to read the newspapers every day, expected us to know who all the cabinet members were - it was great the way he challenged us & I see by his age he was only a 20 something at the time - gifted teacher! It is wonderful he spent his life as an educator.

Condolence: Mary and Children: I have had the pleasure of knowing George for 50 years and worked closely with him in several venues. For the past 5 or so years, I have referred to him as the toughest and bravest person I knew. His faith was enviable and sincere. His intellegence and wisdom were evident in all of his many positions and places in his life. His family was a great sense of pride to him and most reflective of his example. George, we will miss you Buddy. His favorite word for a pal. Thanks for the pleasure or knowing and working with you. We are all blessed by having been in your life. With Sincere synpathy, Larry Shackelford

Condolence: What a wonderful person the world has lost, but what fun Heaven is in for! I personally have not seen George McGovern since 1970, the year I graduated at Cox High School. His positive influence on me in those years was profound, and I am forever grateful. Your family undoubtedly has thousands and thousands of prayer warriors behind you all. I am only one of that crowd, and with sincerity I wish you peace and comfort.
