Obituary for Gary Howell Hackworth

Gary Howell Hackworth, 72 went home to be with the Lord September 6, 2018. Gary was born in Salt Lake City, UT to the late Gregory H. and Geneva Johnson Hackworth. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Gloria Hall and three grandchildren. He served his country in the United States Air Force as an Aircraft Mechanic and was a disabled veteran of the Vietnam War. Gary also served two tours in the Naval Reserves. He retired from Civil Service after 36 years of service at Naval Air Rework Facility Norfolk. Gary was a member of Community Church Western Branch; a former member and deacon of Deep Creek Baptist Church; and for many years was a part of the local hometown gospel group The Galilean’s.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Judith Bond Hackworth; daughter, Heather D. Taylor (Michael); sons, Brian W. Hackworth and Jeremy W. Hackworth; sisters, Beth Jennings and Becky Gower; brother, Charles Hackworth; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Graham Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake with Rev. Edward W. Lupton officiating followed by Military Honors. His final resting place will be the Carey Family Cemetery, Chesapeake.
