Obituary for Gale Counterman Logsdon
Gale Counterman Logsdon, 64, passed away July 22, 2019. Gale was born to Ray T. Counterman, Sr. and Mary Ann Counterman. She attended Peoples Baptist Church, Chesapeake.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving parents; three sons and their families, Christopher W. Logsdon (Donna), Daughters Amberly L. Smiley (Ethan) and Kristen, Jason T. Logsdon (Crystal) Children Abram and Nora, Alex J. Logsdon (Becky); two sisters, Alicia Boardman (Bob) and children Bailey and Stanley, Becky Counterman and daughter Abygale Englehardt; brother, Ray T. Counterman Jr. and daughter Dawn Haupt (Rob) and daughter Charlotte; and brother-in-law, Leonard "Bubby" Withrow and Children Justin; (granddaughters) Sierra and Faith, Asley Gale, and Ryan and Grandsons Max and Gavin; She was predeceased by her sister, Deborah Withrow.
Gale was a long term resident of Cambridge Square apartments in Chesapeake, Virginia where she was warmly regarded by many of her neighbors and friends. No stranger to struggle, Gale was known for her bright disposition and “somebody has it worse somewhere” attitude. After several strokes left Gale unable to work in 1991, she made her vocation bringing cheer to those around her and instilling hope in the promise of perseverance. She will be missed along with her indomitable spirit.
Gale was an attentive and loving grandmother always making time for card games, knock-knock jokes and kept an endless supply of hard candy and cookies for when they would drop by for visits. Gale also loved shopping, coffee, and going out to spend time with family. She never allowed her limitations to keep her away from a good time.
Gale was a proud mother to 3 sons and took every opportunity to brag on her boys. She was the biggest fan of son Jason’s musical endeavors and was happy to attend shows or listen to recordings of his music. She has been her son’s cheerleader, counselor, and best friend and sincerely loved just being with them. She was always supportive of their families, careers, and interests, a support that will not be replaced.
As the oldest of her siblings, Gale always looked forward to the next conversation, a cup of coffee, or long-running inside joke with her sisters and brother. Nobody could make Gale laugh harder than her closest in age sister Deborah who preceded her in death in 2016. All of the family is certain that Debbie and Gale are enjoying each other in their heavenly home waiting on the rest of us to join the fun.
As a daughter Gale was very close to her parents and made time to make sure they were well and gave them plenty of which to be proud.
Gale made the most of every day and encouraged those around her to do the same. She is a great reminder that though it is easier to give up when things seem impossible that you can make it. You are valuable. And that the best is yet to come. Her family welcomes you to take comfort in her savior, Jesus Christ, and to trust in the Lord as your strength when you aren’t able to make sense of what chaos you are experiencing.
