Emma Jean Simmons, 84, went to be with her Savior February 7, 2022. Emma was born in Columbus County, NC to the late Cleveland and Doria Godwin Cartrette. She was a faithful member of Peoples Baptist Church. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, David Wilson Simmons; a daughter, Sudie Gayle Melvin; and son, Ricky Simmons.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving son, Jeffery W. Simmons and his wife, Anita; grandsons, David Melvin (Ali), Chase Simmons (Dana), Ryan Simmons (Kevin); and her siblings, Carolyn Duncan and Horace Cartrette.

The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, 1112 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake on Thursday, February 17, 2022, from 11-12 noon. A service to celebrate her life will begin at noon with Pastor Gib Hale officiating. She will be laid to rest at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. At her request memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
