Obituary for Edwin Bradford Sawyer

Edwin Bradford Sawyer, 78, passed away October 2, 2018. Brad was born in South Norfolk and was the son of the late Evelyn Wickens Sawyer and O. Everett Sawyer. He lived in Great Bridge for most of his life and was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Brad was veteran of the U. S. Marine Corp., having served in the Infantry assigned to the 2nd Marine Division. He retired as a Sheet Metal Mechanic; was as a past member of Local 87 and 100. In 1971 he did contract work on the World Trade Towers in New York City. Brad in the past also served as a Scout Leader, Home Firearm and Rifle Instructor; was a past member of the Norfolk County Historical Society, as well as Va. Beach, Albemarle and National Genealogical Societies; a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Civil War Societies; local Hunting and Angling Clubs; and the Mended Hearts Club; Brad was an avid decoy carver, he truly loved the outdoors, nature and wildlife.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki L. Sawyer; daughter, Darlene Sawyer; son, Scott Sawyer (Kim); step-children, Kelly Becker and Bobby Speakman (Heidi); grandchildren, Jennifer and Lindsey Sawyer, Shaun, Tessa, Abby and Evan Becker, Nicole and Justin Speakman; great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Aiden, Malachi and Asher; brother, Everette L. Sawyer (Joan); nephew, Travis Sawyer; brother-in-law, Ken Martin, Jr. (Nancy), and Aunt, Eugenia Miller.

The family will receive friends Saturday, October 6, 2018 at from 1 to 2 p.m. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, 472 N Battlefield Blvd, Chesapeake. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. with Rev. H. Frank Holley, D.Min. officiating. Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Services will be caring for arrangements.
