Obituary for Edward James "Jim" Waldman III

Edward James “Jim” Waldman, III, passed away peacefully at home on March 24, 2023 at the age of 84. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Edward and Ella Williams Waldman. Jim graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA and proudly served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in October 1972. He met his wife, Joan, while working at Koppers Company in Pittsburgh and were married for 59 years. Together they have 3 children, Lee Ann Carabba, Michael Waldman, and Thomas Waldman; 3 grandchildren, Sarah, Samantha (fiance, Robert Bennett) and Daniel; 4 great grandchildren, Carson, Liam, Emma and Noah; and many extended family and friends.

Jim worked in Marketing at various schools and businesses in the Pittsburgh area and then moved with his family to Chesapeake, VA in 1991 where he continued to work with a number of schools. After spending most of his career working with schools, with students of all ages, and after talking to and getting to know many teachers, he recognized a way he could help students get the assistance they needed to succeed academically. In 2010, Jim became the proud Founder and Owner of Tutor A+ Team which provides tutors to students in the Hampton Roads area and was extremely thankful to know that Tutor A+ Team would continue to help others after his passing.

A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 1 PM at the Church of The Messiah, 816 Kempsville Road, Chesapeake with Rev. Dr. Martin K. O’Rourke officiating. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions can be made to: Church of The Messiah (Please indicate that your gift is for the Jim Waldman Memorial Fund).
